Other Side of ME! - Jennifer A

In the beginning I wasn't sure what to do. I took every Art supply I had like a black sharpie, coloring book, ribbons and color paper. I wanted to draw myself because I realized that all my homework were digitals or photographs. I wanted to make a change and express myself as an Animated version character. As inspiration I used the emoji that I created to send people in messages. The colors that I choose was black, orange, pink, and green. I wanted to copy Andy Warhol with his different types of color but I felt it didn't follow Warhol's idea so I changed the filter expressing how every image is different but it still me. The colors you can say is that orange represent the sun and black represent the night and the color pink is the fantasy side and green is the reality side. I was inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat to put words in my drawing for example never let dark consume you, live bright! I realized it really didn't follow Basquiat artwork so I cancel the sentence never let dark and rewrote DARK. The reason why is because we always live in the dark or always thing negatively for example when I started working on this it looked horrible and I got frustrated and thought to myself why I couldn't I have a beautiful work like my teammates. Then live bright is that I realized I need to have confidence in my work like the artist have when they started to do their artworks. The media influences artist on their artwork that makes them think their work is useless and unimportant or they inspire them to create something beautiful. Warhol and Basquiat helped me understand that my work is great and that the materials I used are significant to me and thats the only thing that should matter. I use the color/ construction paper as a background because media can be anything like  poster boards, television, magazines, newspapers and school artwork. This expresses who I am. I am very childish and I love anime but I also don't like to color because I feel it takes away from the true art. The crown of butterflies is that I want to be free from everything and be independent. But there will always be those people (parents, friends and siblings) guiding my path and future.

"The Spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by images."

"As embodiments of the spectacle, celebrities necessarily “renounce all autonomous qualities in order to identify [themselves] with the general law of obedience to the course of things.” Their Individuality is sacrificed in order to become a figurehead of the profit-driven system."

"The concept of spectacle unifies and explains a great diversity of apparent phenomena. The diversity and the contrasts are appearances of a socially organized appearance, the general truth of which must itself be recognized. "

"The spectacle grasped in its totality is both the result and the project of the existing mode of production. It is not a supplement to the real world, an additional decoration. It is the heart of the unrealism of the real society."
